FAQ:

What is wheel throwing?

Wheel throwing is a ceramics technique where you shape clay on a spinning pottery wheel.

How long does it really take to learn wheel throwing?

How long it takes varies from person to person, but wheel throwing always requires plenty of practice and patience.

Is wheel throwing suitable for beginners?

We offer wheel-throwing courses for both beginners and more experienced potters.

What's the difference between the beginner and follow-up wheel-throwing course?

In the beginners course you'll learn the basics of centering the clay, opening the form, and throwing it up into a cup shape. The course is suitable for beginners — no previous experience needed. You can move on to the follow-up course once you've completed the beginner one.

How many pieces will I manage to throw during a course?

How many pieces you manage to throw varies from person to person and depends on the course theme and length. Please see the course description for details.

Does it matter if I have long nails when throwing?

Long nails can make throwing a bit trickier, but this can be worked around to some extent with the help of tools.

What happens to the piece I've thrown?

After the course, the finished pieces are left to dry before our staff bisque-fire and glaze them. Finished pieces can be picked up after about 4 weeks.

How can I keep throwing after the course?

We offer wheel-throwing courses at different levels (beginner and follow-up) as well as memberships. Four pottery wheels are available during membership evenings at the studio.
